چکیده

This paper investigates the negative effects of electromagnetic interference (EMI) due to fast switching power devices (high dv/dt and di/dt) used in power electronic converters and industrial equipment. Mitigation techniques have been explored to reduce EMI noise effectively. Remedial measures to reduce the risk of equipment malfunction and health risk due to EMI have been explored. In this paper, EMI generation and propagation mechanism, high rates of change of voltage and current in fast switching power devices (such as IGBT), modelling and identifying EMI noise sources and coupling paths have been discussed. A practical EMI measurement system has been suggested to extract more information from EMI noise through analysis in frequency-domain and time-domain, and to test equipment emitting EMI to comply with electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) standards. Different filter topologies have been investigated for minimizing EMI noise and effect of high dv/dt and di/dt due to high frequency switching.

Chapter 2 Pulse - Width Modulation

Pulse-width modulation (PWM) is the basis for control in power electronics. The theoretically zero rise and fall time of an ideal PWM waveform represents a preferred way of driving modern semiconductor power devices. With the exception of some resonant converters, the vast majority of power electronic circuits are controlled by PWM signals of various forms. The rapid rising and falling edges en...

AN-690 Design Innovations Address Advanced CMOS Logic Noise Considerations

Noise in an electronic system can be described according to its source. The first category is system-generated noise, i.e., noise generated from the printed board up, such as power distribution and decoupling noise, crosstalk noise, electromagnetic interference (EMI), and transmission line reflections. System noise is a function of signal characteristics such as edge rate, voltage swing, and fr...

Optimum Structures of a Cascaded Multilevel Inverter for Minimum Number of Power Electronic Devices

In this paper, several optimum structures of a cascaded multilevel inverter is proposed. This optimization is based on generation a constant number of output voltage levels by using minimum number of power switches or dc voltage sources or minimum amount of blocked voltage by power switches. In addition, the optimum structure for a constant number of dc voltage sources by using minimum number o...
